A great and iconic example of old-school Rioja, showing some fantastic and bright freshness, with aromas of fresh red berries and complex dried fruit. Alongside a perfume of rose, violet and clove from time in oak. The finish is persistent yet elegant with cedar and leather coming through from time aging in bottle.
This would sit beside a hunk of parmesan and do wonderful work. Beside a ribeye steak? Even better.
For 145 years, López de Heredia has remained one of Rioja's most important, and sought-after producers. They own all 170 hectares of the vines they farm, some up to 100 years in age, and have been working without chemical intervention for generations. The sustainability practices being prioritised today by younger producers have been the bedrock of López de Heredia's production from day one.
Perhaps the most unique quality of these wines, which is also key to their great demand, is how long they're aged before release. It is a very special experience to enjoy these wines, which are bottled history in themselves.
