Fine, lifted and beautifully elegant Barbaresco, with raspberry, sour cherry and rose petals leading into liquorice, dried herbs and a subtle mineral edge. Ronchi is an east-facing site, receiving mainly morning sun, which proved particularly valuable in the heat of 2023 and helped preserve freshness and perfume.
Dave has worked with fruit from Ronchi since 2020, initially using it as a component in Recta Pete before deciding the parcel was good enough to bottle separately. The wine is fermented for around 20 days before ageing for two years in old 300-litre French oak barrels, all more than ten years old. Production is tiny, at just 1,260 bottles.
The palate is all about purity rather than power: succulent red fruit, bright acidity and very fine, persistent tannins, with a long, mineral finish. Walter Speller scored it 17+/20, praising its “great purity” and describing the tannins as “fine gossamer tannins”. A particularly refined expression of 2023 Barbaresco.

David Fletcher is an Australian native who really REALLY loves Nebbiolo, and that obsession has happily blossomed into a similar appreciation for other Piedmontese varieties too. He started making wine right out of high school, even though he had no family connection to the industry, and no vineyards to inherit (as is often the way. For better or worse, there is a lot of nepotism in the wine industry). In 2006 he came across Nebbiolo in his native Australia, which lead him on a journey that culminated in moving to Italy in 2016 to pursue his great love.
Fletcher Wines was born in Barbaresco's old train station, and to this day David still crafts his wines there.
