Cesar Marquez
César Márquez has deep roots in the Bierzo region. His introduction to winemaking was in his family winery Castro Ventosa, and he spent time in Mendoza. Now for his own project, he is exploring the possibilities of a Burgundy-inspired classification system in Bierzo. He works a number of parcels of old bush vines around Valtuille de Abajo.
His winemaking is low-touch, aiming to express the origin of the grapes over the process. The results are stunning for such a young project, his fresh, expressive Mencías and a characterful Godellos are catching the eye of wine writers and critics - snap some up while you can!
