Faraone, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 'Le Vigne', 2023, Abruzzo, Italy
This Trebbiano is fresh and savoury with a lovely aromatic nose. It smells like armfuls of fresh cut flowers. It has rich citrus zest, yellow apple and hay. The intensity of flavour alongside the waxy texture work in balance. Serve this with a big rich bowl of pasta with cream and anchovies.
Gaintza Txakolina, Getariako Txakolina, 2024, Getaria, Spain
This style of wine comes from the cool green Atlantic West coast of Spain. The wine is made and bottled quickly, made for enjoying right away which often gives the wine a slight spritz, which we see in this wine. Fresh green herbs, citrus and green apple in abundance. This is a zippy wine, perfect paired with goats’ cheese or sashimi.
Giordano Lombardo, Gavi DOCG, Senza Filtri 'Cascina dei Ronchi', 2023, Piedmont, Italy
This wine is inviting and mouthwatering. Lemon, grapefruit and tangerine zest are aromatic and compliment the blossom and jasmine notes on the nose. On the palate, we have wet stone and oyster shell alongside a lean acidity. The orchard fruit and citrus carry through and the wine finishes clean with a long finish.
Wild Air, Sauvignon Blanc, 2022, Cape South Coast, South Africa
This has the tropical pineapple notes that we know from Sauvignon Blanc but paired with a creaminess from time on lees. This tropical profile is balanced expertly with a bright lime zest acidity and a mineral finish that leaves the palate clean.
Novum, Chardonnay, 2023, Marlborough, New Zealand
The 2021 Novum Chardonnay is flinty and mineral, made with fruit sourced from a tiny parcel in Marlborough's Central Wairau plains. This is a million miles away from the supermarket Sauvignon Blanc that put Marlborough on the map. Finely textured, with fresh acidity and notes of pear, oatmeal, lemon curd and a stony finish. It pays homage to the elegant styles of Burgundy, whilst remaining a true celebration of New Zealand’s terroir.
Domaine Dupraz, Montracul Savoie Blanc, 2024, Savoie, France
This wine interesting and delightfully different. There is a richness of hay, flint and beeswax but with an aromatic nose of honeysuckle. Juicy red apple ties everything together and the finish finishes long, mineral and salty.
