This wine is round and fresh with power and elegance in perfect balance. Red cherry, strawberry and raspberry dominate here but with a touch of darker black cherry. Rose petals, black tea and tar lift the nose while bringing oomph. There is a touch of whole bunch and a careful use of a range of oak barrels. This may be the most regionally representative wine Lingua Franca has made- a delicious way to discover the region!
This winery is the product of several wine heavyweights. Larry Stone is a Master of Wine with a life-long ambition to make wine. On December 31st 2012, he took a big step towards realisation when he got his hands on one of the most sought-after plots of land in Oregon. This caught the eyes of two more heavyweights; Dominique Lafon of Burgundy fame and protegee winemaker, Thomas Savre.
Today the fruit is grown in Willamette Valley, known for its similarities to Burgundy when it comes to temperature, daylight and rainfall. Meticulous low-impact farming protects the purity and grace of the soils and, by extension, the fruit. While these vines have a lot in common with Burgundy, these gents are out to show us Oregon- by celebrating the soils and terroir, this Oregon personality is coaxed out of the fruit and nurtured. This fruit is handed to Thomas, who transmutes this fruit into wine with tension and character.
