Syrah

Syrah

Syrah is a grape variety hailing from the Rhône valley in France, where it has been grown since the Roman era. Syrah’s ability to adapt itself to a range of difficult growing conditions has led it to become a popular choice outside of France too. You will find Syrah planted widely in Australia for example, where it is more commonly referred to as Shiraz. The difference in labelling Syrah is a great indicator of what style to expect. Generally, when ‘Syrah’ appears on the label it’s because the wine has been made in a more ‘classic’ French style. ‘Shiraz’ tends to denote a bolder, more fruit-forward expression that’s popular in New World countries. No matter your preference of Syrah or Shiraz, one thing is always certain; this variety hits the mark for lovers of a powerful, spicy style of red.
