After a stint as a chef and jobs in cellars and vineyards across South Australia Steve Crawford came to Europe. Travelling around France, northern Spain, northern Italy, Austria and Germany he was struck by the cultural aspect of wine and how it effortlessly merges into daily life - food, socialising, friends and family time.
On his return to Australia he started his own project in 2012, as an antidote to the industrial scale and trophy winemaking he felt had overwhelmed the Aussie wine scene. He wanted to show an elegant side to south Australian wines and prove that structure and balance can be achieved without a box-of-tricks in the cellar. These are food friendly wines, and it’s this social aspect of sharing a good bottle that is at the heart of Steve's winemaking ethos.
