Coto do Gomariz
The Ribeiro DO, inland from better known Rias Baixas, is split by three rivers. The steep slopes, a mix of soil types and proximity to the Atlantic make it a unique microclimate. In the 1970s Arsenio Paz and Ricardo Carreiro started replanting local grapes such as Treixadura, Godello, Loureira, Albariño, Souson, Brancellao, Ferrol and Mencia which had been pulled up after phylloxera. Ricardo’s son - also called Ricardo - took over the winery in 2000.
He hired oenologist Xosé Lois Sebio, who started to work some of the vineyards biodynamically, challenging in this cool, maritime region. These are distinctive, refreshing wines that speak of their lush, green home.
