Andreas Bender
Young winemaker Andreas Bender has sites across the heart of the Mosel Valley. Having lived and worked in the region all his life he knows each area well, and which sites are likely to thrive each vintage. His method is distinctive in the world of German wine: instead of following the familiar model whereby top single vineyards are vinified and bottled separately, he blends his vineyards to achieve three different styles - similar to how Champagne houses blend across villages to achieve a consistent house style.
While on the one hand, his ideas are modern, when it comes to winemaking itself, Andreas is committed to tradition: he believes in careful cellar work, traditional winemaking methods and natural fermentation. On good years the best cuvées, from single vineyard sites with the most concentrated fruit are bottled as his black label ‘Zenit’.
