Cherry, brambles, liquorice and a smoky, ,earthy note. This wine has the brightness and crunchiness of Beaujolais with the smoky meatiness and compact structure of the Northern Rhone. It is taut, with energy.
This is old-vine Gamay is grown on rocky granite from the Ardeche. Herve captures the essence of his fruit through slow, subtle aging. He reads the fruit and captures its essence.
Pair this with carpaccio or sticky ribs and I can't imagine not being happy.
Hervé and Béatirice began back in 1993. They’re in a prime spot, on the right bank of the Rhone River, right opposite Hermitage Hill. This is where they farm 7 hectares of vines. He is growing varieties we expect to see in the Northern Rhone with Viogner and Roussanne for white, and Syrah and Gamay for black grape varieties. Hervé wants to be as hands-off as he can. The only way he can pull this off, is with real knowledge of the region and of his craft and with real attention to detail. And this begins in the vineyard.
The vines are farmed organically, although he’s never sought certification. The rocky granitic soils he grows on are celebrated in his wines. He looks to an expressive and transparent style, merely supporting the fruit to express terroir.
