Odinstal sits on rich stripy soils at 350m elevation, overlooking the rest of Pfalz with a sea of mist lapping at the shore of Odinstal every morning. The land is key here; it has more altitude and variation than the rest of Pfalz. Andreas Schumann came to Odinstal with full classical training, ready to make wine and he’s been on quite the journey. A journey that began with getting water and power to the winery!

Having learned about biodynamics, Andreas had never actually worked with the principles. All of this changed in 2006 when a storm risked the entire crop at Odinstal. With little left to lose it was time, he decided, to give biodynamics a chance. Once he saw the results, there was no going back. Fast forward to today and they are a leader in the field, boasting a closed-loop biodynamics programme, making all their preparations on site. Perhaps the jewel in this crown is the cows, who know and graze the land, controlling growth, and providing manure and horns. Odinstal allow the fruit they grow to celebrate this incredible terroir and heritage.
