This rosé version of the 'Vatua!' cuvee came about when Sergi Colet and Fredi Torres were having long and happy lunch. Fredi mixed a little of his Priorat Grenache into some regular 'Vatua!' - they liked the result and since then have made a version with a dosage of Fredi’s wine. This gives it a lovely onion skin colour and a bit of spice and rounder fruitiness, it’s a great food wine. Oriental spice, tropical fruit and citrus on the nose. Full and rich in the mouth with refreshing acidity.
Colet is a family winery- one of only 18 producers of Classic Penedès. Sergi did a Masters of Champagne and worked at Pol Roger and built his experience working at Gramona. When he came back, he and his father decided to change how the family had been working. Farming their vineyard since 1783, but mostly tenant farmers, they flipped this on its head. They stopped farming for maximum yield and decided just to work with their own grapes.
To make Classic Penedès, the wines must be made from organic, estate grown grapes. They must be made in the traditional methos and have a minimum of 15 months in bottle with vintage and disgorgement dates must all be on the bottle. Sergi and his family are so proud of their products and are proud to fly the flag for Penedès.
