Domaine Leon Boesch

Domaine Leon Boesch

This Domaine dates back to 1640 and is now in the hands of Matthieu and Marie Boesch; the 11th generation to take charge. We are in the Ballons des Vosges natural park, in the Vallée Noble, protected perfectly from wind and rain by Petit Ballon and Grand Ballon. The valley has fresh air currents throughout the long growing season and into Autumn. The family treat the vines as if they were their garden, despite having grown to 14.5Ha now.

In the cellar, the attention to detail continues. Fermentation by indigenous yeasts is spontaneous, as is malolactic fermentation. Sulphur use is kept to a minimum, only being added before bottling- Matthieu prefers the interaction between the lees and the wine without sulphur present.

Perhaps the jewel in their crown is the Gewurztraminer grown in the Zinnkoepfle Grand Cru vineyard. They also grow Riesling, Pinot Gris and Muscat in this vineyard, but they declassify it because they don’t believe it meets the same quality level as the Gewurztraminer. This is so representative of the quality they demand as a Domain.
