Dolcetto – ‘little sweet one’ – is so named for its exuberance of fruit character and robust structure. In Ferdinando’s Dosset Vino Rosso, these qualities sing through with pronounced notes of violets and cherries with a hint of earth. The palate is soft and juicy, with fine tannins and flavours of dried herbs, liquorice and marzipan giving depth and complexity.
Ferdinando Principiano is part of the new generation of exciting, young, dynamic winemakers currently shaking things up in Piedmont. His original approach tended towards making 'supped-up' wines that pandered to the 1990's American critics palate. Yet he saw the light in the early '00s, and set about making some big changes that created elegant, supple wines that aged spectacularly whilst remaining delicious to enjoy when young. His vineyards are also rich with wildlife and biodiversity, as he embraced a more natural, eco-centric approach.
