Scar of the Sea
'Mikey Giugni has a way of coaxing so much character from the sites he works with... the wines are done in a style that prizes nuance and understatement.'
- Antonio Galloni
Scar of the Sea began life in 2012. Mikey Giugni set out to make wines that reflected a place and echoed the coast. These pure and honest wines tell you the story of vineyards that fall under the spell of fog each day, of vineyards that root themselves in the Central Coast.
In July 2024, Mikey and Gina found their forever farm, in the Slo Coast AVA, just a mile from the Pacific Ocean. The fruit from this farm joins that from a select handful of like-minded growers who practice organic or biodynamic farming as a minimum. There are some amazing sites in his range, including parcels of fabulous old vines that are very hard to come by in California (thanks to Prohibition). As custodians of the land, they have a holistic approach to caring for the land, working in sync with the rhythms of the land, caring for and rejuvenating the land they farm. Each vintage evolves with them, encompassing intention, passions and experiences.
