This is a fabulous example of modern German Riesling, made in a dry style that celebrates the exceptional acidity of this icon grape. The nose is bursting with notes of citrus and peach, and the palate is zingy and fresh. Incredibly moreish and very versatile with food – pair all sorts, from shellfish through to white meats and even nutty, mild cheeses.
Located in the Rheingau, Weingut Bernhard Mehrlein is a property that has been in the family’s hands for many generations, with currently just over 60ha of vineyards. Winemaker Thorsten Mehrlein took over from his father Berhard in 2015, and since 1996 they have shifted their focus onto dry whites, slowly replanting their vineyards with higher density to naturally reduce yields and increase quality. Training of the vines is also much lower to encourage a rich canopy and produce grapes with higher natural sugar.
