This is Malbec sourced from vines originally bought over from Bordeaux, and planted on the De Martino family estate in Isla de Maipo - an area in Southern Chile formed by the erosions of the Maipo river. A more fragrant, silkier style of Malbec than the richer expression commonly made in the Andes of Mendoza. Distinctly Chilean with floral and savoury notes alongside light plummy fruit, and earthy tannins.

Luis Gutiérrez - The Wine Advocate

The 2020 Tinto de La Reina was produced with Malbec (Côt) grapes from Isla de Maipo where they managed to keep the wine at a restrained 12.7% alcohol despite the warm year. It has a varietal nose, floral and fresh, with a lively palate with flavors of acid berries and very fine tannins. Delicious and easy to drink. The destemmed grapes fermented in open bins with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in well-seasoned barrels for seven months. Drink Date:

About Vigneron Fine Wines

De Martino is one of the most progressive names on the Chilean wine scene, with a focus on quality, sustainability and terroir. Sebastián and Marco, the 6th generation of the family, set up Vigneron Fine Wines in 2017 to give them the opportunity to work in a freer more ‘natural’ style than the family projects. All the vineyards they work with in Chile are farmed organically or traditionally, without any chemical treatments. Picking and winemaking decisions are made on taste not analysis. The wines all undergo slow, gentle fermentations, and are aged in neutral French oak, before bottling with a tiny amount of sulphur. Marco describes them as: “Natural, handmade wines that try express terroir in the most pure way I know.”
