This skin-contact Muskat Ottonel from Slovenia is nothing short of sensational. Aged on its skins in large, terracotta amphora for six months, it is then transferred to wooden barrels for another year before bottling. The result is a truly mesmerising wine. Rich and hedonistic, yet with a wonderful undercurrent of vibrant acidity. It has a powerful, deep-rooted sense of place and has quickly become one of our all-time favourite expressions of orange wine.
The Zorjan family have been farming for generations. Their ancestors farmed traditionally, without the use of modern methods and thus preserved the immense richness, and vitality, of the soil. The current generation took over in the 1980s. After years of experimenting, they converted fully to biodynamics and opted to begin using amphoras to ferment their wines. These are wines deeply connected to nature - wines brimming with life!
