This enticing field blend is made up from predominantly Cinsault, with a seasoning of other local grapes thrown in (including Pais). The vineyard was planted in the 1960's and is now farmed organically, lending itself too gorgeous biodiversity and very happy vines. Fermented with natural yeasts, the final wine is fresh and lovely with notes of wild strawberry, sour cherry, delicate violets and a kick of spice to finish. A fabulous example of fun, modern Chilean winemaking.
To taste any of the Rogue Vine wines is to discover a completely different side to Chilean wine. The project hails from Itata, an old and nearly forgotten viticultural valley with bush vines growing on pure granitic soils, 400 km south of Santiago.
The project is led by two friends: Leonardo Erazo and Justin Decker, who share a passion for terroir and sustainable growing, acquired over years of travelling the world’s vineyards. In Itata they have discovered old vineyards with dry bush farmed Cinsault, País, Carignan, Malbec, Sémillon, Moscatel and more. They farm organically and vinify using native yeast and concrete tanks, and the resulting wines express the freshness and minerality of the soil and climate. Wines to make you rethink everything you thought you knew about Chilean wine.
