Johan Meyer's cult orange wine is made from whole-bunch pressed Chenin Blanc that spends nine weeks on contact – the resulting wine both serious and structured, but also incredibly drinkable. Hazy golden orange in the glass, the nose and palate are a kaleidoscope of exotic fruit, florals, and a hint of stony minerality. There’s plenty of freshness and texture on the palate, with lingering citrus in the mouth.
Mother Rock wines showcase the best and purest expression of the Swartland's diverse terroir. Young winemaker Johan Meyer has developed strong relationships with some of the best grape growers across the Swartland and has gained access to some of the region’s best fruit. Under the Mother Rock label, he bottles exceptional parcels of well-farmed vines grown on a variety of soil types and vinified as simply as possible. Johan himself says it best: “I believe the word terroir should be used in honest terms. Letting the area and grape speak for themselves in the bottle is our goal – naturally fermented grape juice, that’s all!”.
