Here the lesser-known Valencian grape 'Merseguera' sits front and centre, sourced from incredible, high-altitude vineyards around the village of Vanta del Moro. Merseguera is hardly a household name, in fact, this is the first time we've tasted it solo, but gosh is it good. The fragrant and delicate nose is brimming with lychee and stone fruit notes, whilst the palate offers lively acidity, abundant fresh stone fruit, a little orange peel and orange blossom. It’s understated, super delicious, and offers ridiculously good value.
'La Comarcal' is a collaboration between The Sourcing Table favourite Javi Revert and his good friend Victor Marqués, two of the finest winemakers in Mediterranean Spain.
The project is rooted in a deep love of the Valencian landscape, an area that has abundant untapped potential for winemaking. Javi and Victor are both locals o the area, and together they are uncovering amazing vineyard sites and varieties that have been long overlooked. 'La Comarcal' (which translates to 'The District') takes a h approach - fermenting with natural yeasts and ageing in neutral vessels - to ensure that the unique fruit shines through.
