Winemaker Gutier Seijo Otero, ex-technical director of Dominio do Bibei (a highly sought-after icon in Ribeira Sacra), is seeking out great vineyards and native grapes that form the landscape and cultural history along the Miño River. The Mixtura wine is one that transcends country lines. Gutier combines sites between Galicia and Melgaço in northern Portugal, to create a pure, intense and characterful cross-regional blend, defined by common soil and climate. It's a project that takes the concept of 'terroir' to a level few have approached before. The result is a revelation, with notes of lime and lemon zest, green apple, wet stones and a rich, smoked finish. The oak is broad and rounded, thanks to 12 months in Austrian oak foudres, and this is very reminiscent of fine Grand Cru Chablis.
