This Chenin Blanc led blend covers a spectrum of flavours from brilliant lemon, blossom and juicy stone fruits. It’s rich with a lovely fruit concentration, creamy texture and balance. As the name of the wine suggests, City on a Hill comes from the undulating region of The Paardeberg mountains, which divides the Paarl and Swartland.
André Bruyns, the assistant winemaker to Swartland stars David and Nadia Sadie, started making wine under his own label City on a Hill in 2015. André wants his wines to be very specific to their site and soil type. His white grapes come from 35-year-old dryland vineyards in the Paardeberg Mountain, planted mainly with Chenin Blanc.
He farms sustainably using some organic and biodynamic practices. The granite soils enhance the stony/mineral attributes of the grapes giving rise to a focused and linear style. The wines are fermented naturally in old oak barrels to enhance the sense of place.
