A wine with perhaps some of the greatest ageing potential from the Clos des Papes 00s vintages, this is only now hitting its stride in terms of its drinking window. Gosh, what a gorgeous expression, with a velvet texture and spicy, liquorice kick that compliments the smoked, savoury notes that have come with age. At least another 10+ years still left to go though.

"It's full-bodied and velvety, ripe, plush and long, a completely delicious taste experience that culminates in a lick of salted liquorice. Owners should count themselves lucky to have purchased some, as this still has a decade or more of life ahead of it." - Joe Czerwinksi, The Wine Advocate

Still relatively young tasting, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape accents lush red fruit with hints of leather and Asian five-spice powder. It's full-bodied and velvety, ripe, plush and long, a completely delicious taste experience that culminates in a lick of salted liquorice. Owners should count themselves lucky to have purchased some, as this still has a decade or more of life ahead of it. As Paul-Vincent Avril said, "2009 is still a baby—decant it if you can.

About Clos des Papes

The talents of winemaker Paul Vincent Avril have made Close des Papes one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's most acclaimed Domaines.

The winery has been in the Avril family for three generations and takes its name from the neighbouring ruins of the 14th Century papal castle. Paul Vincent honed his craft at the sensational Bordeaux first growth Château Mouton Rothschild, before taking the reigns of his family estate.

Here he has elevated an already iconic name into the stratosphere, and Clos des Papes' wines are now amongst the finest in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
