Christopher’s perpetual red blend is a fun wine, made for drinking. It is fresh, light and bright. The red fruit is crunchy with cranberry and raspberry standing alongside floral notes of jasmine and violet.

This is Spätburgunder blended with Pinot Gris. The lift the Pinot Gris brings is so welcome, making this a beautiful, dangerously drinkable wine. It brings out the aromatic side of the Spätburgunder. This wine doesn’t need anything alongside it, but would sit happily alongside charcuterie, or any salty snacks. Bob it in the fridge for 10 minutes and have a second bottle at the ready!

About Christopher Barth

It’s always a treat to meet a producer who is so grounded and making such special wines. Christopher looks after every single element of production in his wines and his hands-on approach and attention to detail means nothing gets past him. Through being fastidious in both in the vineyard and in the cellar, Christopher’s wines have such a clear style. They are pure, bright, unadorned. A breath of fresh air.

Walking through the vines with him, Christopher showed us the beautiful and unique Melaphyr soils he is growing on. He works with the rhythms of nature, following biodynamic practices to protect the life and vitality of the soil. In particular, the Riesling grown on these slopes highlights this volcanic soil and its vitality is felt in the wines.

Christopher came to wine making with curiosity and open-mindedness having taken over when his uncle passed away suddenly. He leans away from unnecessary technology, favouring a minimal and exacting method of winemaking. “Not much has changed here in the last 100 years”.
