This bright Chardonnay is fresh, with aromatic green tarragon and thyme and a touch of texture from lees. The subtle oak influence from large, old oak brings the wine together without imparting oak flavour and leaves the mineral clean finish that Christopher Barth is known for. Grown on slopes just below Melaphyr volcanic soils, giving a saline mineral edge.

About Christopher Barth

It’s always a treat to meet a producer who is so grounded and making such special wines. Christopher looks after every single element of production in his wines and his hands-on approach and attention to detail means nothing gets past him. Through being fastidious in both in the vineyard and in the cellar, Christopher’s wines have such a clear style. They are pure, bright, unadorned. A breath of fresh air.

Walking through the vines with him, Christopher showed us the beautiful and unique Melaphyr soils he is growing on. He works with the rhythms of nature, following biodynamic practices to protect the life and vitality of the soil. In particular, the Riesling grown on these slopes highlights this volcanic soil and its vitality is felt in the wines.

Christopher came to wine making with curiosity and open-mindedness having taken over when his uncle passed away suddenly. He leans away from unnecessary technology, favouring a minimal and exacting method of winemaking. “Not much has changed here in the last 100 years”.
