Escoda-Sanahuja

Escoda-Sanahuja

Charmingly hirsute, hippyish Joan-Ramon Escoda started his winery in 1997, in Conca de Barberà a little known winegrowing area southwest of Barcelona. The project grew from his dream to create pure natural wines and practice biodynamic agriculture.

Biodynamics emphasises a farm as a self-sustaining whole: Joan-Ramon's vines grow next to olives and almonds; he keeps cows, horses and chickens enabling him to meet his compost needs ‘in-house’; and plants vegetation between the vine rows to encourage biodiversity. In the winery, he works minimally saying he wants to “respects the fruit to the maximum”. And since 2007 he has stopped using sulphites. These are highly individual wines reflecting their origins and their innovative winemaker.
