Davenport Vineyards

Davenport Vineyards

In 1991 Will Davenport planted five acres of vines in Horsmonden in Kent, from small beginnings the estate has grown to 24 acres, five sites and nine grape varieties! Will was always a keen supporter of organic farming and in 2000 he made the decision to convert all the vines and winery to organic systems, certified by the Soil Association. At the time this was a risk in the inclement English climate, but the vines are in great shape, the fruit quality is second to none, and the wines show a depth of character that they believe could not be achieved with the use of chemicals in the vineyard and winery.

Will studied winemaking in Australia, worked in the London wine trade and has done a variety of stints making wine in Alsace, California, Australia and the UK before setting up Davenport. Will also looks after the rest of the farm at Rotherfield which includes a small flock of Wiltshire Horn sheep, some bees and a lot of wildlife and woodland. With a little help from winery dog Marvin!
