This is the first wine from Pepe’s own project – Vinedos do Gabian. His vineyard sits in a sheltered amphitheatre-like site and makes ups 3 hectares of local varietals: Brancellao and Caíño Longo. Elegant and fragrant, Xanledo is a bright crunchy red that reflects the local grantic terroir and traditional winemaking of the Ribiero region. The nose is perfumed with cranberries and lifted notes of violets. The palate is supple with concentrated red berry fruit, ripe tannins and a long juicy finish.

About Vinedos do Gabian

Viñedos do Gabián is a new project from Jose Pereiro Lopez-Quecuty (Pepe for short) assistant winemaker to Bierzo legend Raul Perez. Pepe planted 3 hectares of native grapes Brancellao and Caíño Longo in 2011 in an amphitheatre-style vineyard. For now only a portion of that estate fruit is being bottled, Pepe buys additional grapes from local growers, but as the roots dig deeper into the granitic sand it’s only going to get better.

Farming is uncertified organic and the winemaking is traditional – grapes are fermented whole cluster by plot, and the wines were aged separately and then blended. The result is a juicy aromatic wine with ripe and elegant tannins.
