In Italian, 'Solo per Amore' translates to 'Only for Love'; a fitting name for this new addition to Sori della Sorba's range given the project was founded on the love of its two winemakers, Carlo Mondavi and Giovanna Bagnasco. These are two talents with some serious pedigree between them. Carlo's grandfather was Napa maverick Robert Mondavi, and he now owns Raen winery in Sonoma, plus Giovanna is Barolo born and raised with her own family project, Agricola Brandini, thriving in the region.

Sori della Sorba is a triumphant partnership that brings together the best of both these worlds, and the results speak for themselves. This enticing blend of Dolcetto and Nebbiolo is layered and nuanced, whilst still maintaining the vibrant drinkability that Dolcetto is known for.

This is a new wine for this estate, to celebrate the long-term relationship between Napa Valley’s Carlo Mondavi and Lange’s Giovanna Bagnasco (Brandini, as well as this property). It’s a delicious blend of dolcetto and nebbiolo that’s fruity and generous with a citrusy undertone to the purple fruit, finishing with cinnamon and other spices.

J'nai Gaither - Decanter

Beautifully bright and brilliant with effusive aromatics of strawberry and dusty red cherries, notes of anise and candied cherry, this blend of 60% Dolcetto and 40% Nebbiolo from high in the Langhe is a study in pure fruit character. Flavours of blue and black berries are accented by rustic and savoury wild thyme. The palate is fresh with ample structure, and dusty tannins deliver a lengthy red fruit finish.

The 2020 Langhe Rosso Solo Per Amore is another serious wine from Sori della Sorba, despite its rather silly name. A blend of 60% Dolcetto and 40% Nebbiolo, the Rosso conveys depth, intensity and notable personality. Sumptuous dark red fruit, licorice, pomegranate, red flowers and orange peel fill out the layers. There's terrific depth and just the right amount of grip in the tannins to wrap it all together. Here, too, the 80% stems are not especially perceptible.
