This Chianti was found, not just made; after years of scouting several Tuscan regions, Maurizo discovered two small parcels in the hilltop village Barbischio and knew this was the place. The vineyards’ rich sedimentary soils yield concentrated grapes and expressive wines, producing the consummate Chianti with an earthy, spicy nose, vibrant cherry fruit on the palate and tannins.
Maurizio, although Sicilian by birth, has established a deep understanding of and connection with the terroirs of Tuscany. After 30 years of experience consulting for numerous wineries in Italy and abroad, it was in Chianti that he embarked on his maiden project, born out of the desire to put his name on something that he could call his own.
Maurizio discovered two small parcels of 40-year-old vines in Barbischio, near Gaiole on the east of the Classico zone. His two plots are planted mainly with Sangiovese plus a small proportion of Canaiolo and Malvasia Nera. The vineyards are in conversion to organic farming and will be certified from the 2019 vintage.
