This crisp, nervy Chardonnay is a blend of three different vineyard plots on the highly appreciated AOC Bourgogne land in between Puligny Montrachet and Meursault. Winemakers go to great lengths to find fruit from this sector to add weight and depth to their regional blends. Jean-Marie makes a hand-sewn natural wine from his 1.5 ha. The aromatics are intense, with citrus, green apple and more fleshy peach characters. The palate gives ripe fruit laid over striking mineral saltiness and whipcrack acidity.
Jean-Marie and his wife bought their first parcel of Chardonnay vines in Puligny-Montrachet in 2004. Jean-Marie made the conscious decision to purchase land so that he was in total control of his own vines. Inspired by his childhood in the Savoie, where his uncle was an organic farmer, and by the other young winemakers he met, Jean-Marie decided to make wine without any chemicals in the vineyard or cellar. Jean-Marie worked in advertising before becoming a vineyard owner and winemaker.
The name of their first wine ‘Le Petit Têtu’ came about because his advertising friends used to call him it when he told them that he wanted to leave in order to become a landowner in Burgundy and to produce natural wines. “They thought I was bonkers, and very single-minded or stubborn!"
