The Huré brothers joke that the 4 Elements Chardonnay is "like Roulot with bubbles”. An incredibly concentrated, it does have the aromas and flavour profile of a fine white Burgundy. Flinty on the nose, with ripe citrus and peaches matched by similar richness and complexity on the palate. It evoles in the glass, revelaing notes of citrus, stone fruit, pineapple, yeast and a stunning smoky minerality. An incredibly vinous champagne.
Hure Frere is a family business through and through. Run by brothers François and Pierre, with guidance from their father Raoul, this winery harnasses the potential of Ludes; a fantastic Premier Cru on the Reims mountain. The brothers believe that great Champagne starts in the vines, and they farm all their vineyards using Biodynamic and Organic practices. A far cry from the industrial style farming favoured by big Champagne houses.
Their attention to detail may be micro-local but their outlook is global. They cite Hubert De Montille from Domaine de Montille in Volnay for his amazing way to express each vineyard, and Mat Donaldson from Pegasus Bay Winery in New Zealand as influences and inspiration.
