A fantastically unique offering from Heinrich offered up in an equally unique handcrafted clay bottle. Made from a blend of Grauburgunder, Wiessburgunder and Chardonnay, all fermented on their skins for 2 weeks and then matured in both amphora and large oak vats.
A compelling burnt orange colour (from the Pinot Gris skin contact), this is energetic and wonderfully complex with notes of mandarin, pear, spice and melon.
Only available in extremely limited quantities and exclusively from The Sourcing Table in the UK.
Gernot and Heike Heinrich put their heart and soul into their wines and it shows in this diverse range with energy and finesse. They have never been afraid to innovate - after taking over Gernot’s family winery in 1985 they were among the first in the region to produce high-quality reds, seeing the potential in local varietals like Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St Laurent. Heinrich have vineyards on the Leithaberg, southwest of Vienna, and also on the other side of Lake Neusiedl where the gentle slopes of the Pannonian Plain give a warmer microclimate.
They are passionate about biodynamics because they feel it’s right for the planet but also because Gernot believes that the best wines express a sense of place, and that they can only do this if they're rooted in a biologically diverse environment and the vines live in symbiosis with a healthy ecosystem. They have a flock of the friendliest, most contented looking sheep we’ve ever met, as well as ducks and hens, and bee hives in some of their vineyards!
