Touriga Vai Nua means "Touriga goes naked"; a playful nod to the fact that this tasty number is unoaked - quite a rarity for this variety. This will change the way you think about Portuguese reds. Dark and brooding, yet lifted and fruit-forward this wine is a flourish of blackcurrant compote, lavender, garrigue herbs, and fennel. So complex and layered, not the big bombastic style you might expect. A testament to the talents of winemaker António Maçanita and his mission to make the best wines in the Alentejano.
This wine, bottled young, attempts to capture the essence of Touriga Nacional, and it succeeds brilliantly. This has a lovely aroma of floral cherry fruit with some hints of tar. In the mouth there’s lovely vivid raspberry and cherry fruit with nice brightness and focus: it’s so floral, vital and primary with nice juiciness. In some ways, this is like tasting a barrel sample – the wine is bottled with none of that primary fruit deliciousness lost.
Super-fruity and intense with a strong floral undertow and a mineral overlay, if that is possible. Pure pleasure. Sweet start and a dry finish with lots of reverberation on the palate inbetween. The whole fruit and nothing but the fruit. Very Good Value.
