'Els Presseguers' is a single vineyard of local variety Xarel lo, which has historically been a variety utilised in sparkling Cava blends rather than still wines. L'Enclos de Peralba is tapping into Xarel lo's potential in a big way, putting this variety front and centre in their wines. It's a variety that thrives in Penedès and is especially easy to farm organically since it's very resistant to disease. It can be quite subtle and needs a skilled winemaker to bring out its best, which L'Enclos de Peralba more than achieve.
This expression is just gorgeous, with notes of ripe peach, citrus and soft herbs with layers of texture and weight. A wine that will age very well, but is equally approachable now.
12.5% alcohol. Lovely complex citrus fruit nose. Textured and detailed on the palate with some crystalline character, and lovely citrus and pear fruit. Such complexity here: a really beautiful expression of this interesting variety.
SO full of flavour! I suspect I would have preferred this wine a year or two ago. It’s just starting to become tertiary and lose its freshness but it’s still a good, well-balanced drink with none of the cabbage/vegy notes that can be off-putting in this local grape variety. But connoisseurs of Xarello may enjoy savouring it in an unusually mature form…?
