' ...This is very pure and well made, a self-effacing Lavaux St. Jacques that displays lovely balance and grace. This is just beautiful.'

Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate

We very rarely use the phrase 'good value' when discussing 1er Cru Burgundy, but this taut and earthy Gevrey 'Lavaux Saint-Jacques' is a notable exception. Sourced from a 0.25-hectare plot of 45-year-old vines, this is a wine that offers a glorious snapshot of this famous terroir without all the extra zeros on the price. 2012 was a tricky vintage, but this works in our favour here by creating an approachable 1er Cru wine sitting comfortably in its drinking window. As Neal Martin wonderfully conveys, Frederic Esmonin's 2012's are 'composed, poised and cautiously intense.'

Neal Martin - The Wine Advocate

The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St.-Jacques comes from a single 0.25-hectare of 45-year old vines. It has a taut, laconic nose at first that demands encouragement in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with attractive blackcurrant and raspberry fruit on the entry. This is very pure and well made, a self-effacing Lavaux St. Jacques that displays lovely balance and grace. This is just beautiful.
