A double whammy of Cabernet (Franc and Sauvignon) makes for a seriously energetic, complex red that practically leaps right out of your glass. This is 95% Cabernet Franc, but that 5% of Cabernet Sauvignon adds a serious punch of extra flavour, rounding out a wine that's brimming with dark, inky fruit and abundant wild herbs and dried sage. The acidity, sweetness and spice all seem to work together as one but remain identifiable in their own right.
Clos Galerne is the Anjou-based passion project of husband and wife duo Cédric and Myrtille Bourez, who relocated from Provence in search of some of the Loire's greatest terroirs for their own winemaking project. Having trained at Château d’Esclans Cedric and his wife Myrtille were captivated by the potential of the eleven hectares they found in the form of tiny parcels of Anjou Noir, Pierre Bise, Moulin Brûlé Beaulieu-sur-Layon, Savennières and Chaume.
It was love at first sight, and Cédric and Myrtille now own and farm these plots with organic principles and a low-intervention approach. We have been consistently blown away by this project. Clos Galerne offers outstanding expressions of Anjou Chenin Blanc at remarkably affordable prices, and we are very excited to see how they continue to take the Loire by storm.
