The 'Exspecto' vineyard plot is just 20 years old, but the intensity of the fruit would have us believe this was a true old vine Chenin expression. Decadent and layered, but with exceptional acidity to perfectly balance everything out, it's brimming with notes of green pear, hazelnut and toasted sesame, with confit lemon and peach. A mouthwatering wine that demands a second glass ... and then a third!
Clos Galerne is the Anjou-based passion project of husband and wife duo Cédric and Myrtille Bourez, who relocated from Provence in search of some of the Loire's greatest terroirs for their own winemaking project. Having trained at Château d’Esclans Cedric and his wife Myrtille were captivated by the potential of the eleven hectares they found in the form of tiny parcels of Anjou Noir, Pierre Bise, Moulin Brûlé Beaulieu-sur-Layon, Savennières and Chaume.
It was love at first sight, and Cédric and Myrtille now own and farm these plots with organic principles and a low-intervention approach. We have been consistently blown away by this project. Clos Galerne offers outstanding expressions of Anjou Chenin Blanc at remarkably affordable prices, and we are very excited to see how they continue to take the Loire by storm.
