This is the purity of South Africa's finest terroir, distilled into a single bottle. This Chenin is produced from only the very best barrels 'City on a Hill' crafts in each vintage, offering a textural, fruit-forward wine brimming with orchard fruit, white peach and lemon. A wine that perfectly showcases why this white grape is synonymous with fringe South African winemaking.
André Bruyns, the assistant winemaker to Swartland stars David and Nadia Sadie, started making wine under his own label City on a Hill in 2015. André wants his wines to be very specific to their site and soil type. His white grapes come from 35-year-old dryland vineyards in the Paardeberg Mountain, planted mainly with Chenin Blanc.
He farms sustainably using some organic and biodynamic practices. The granite soils enhance the stony/mineral attributes of the grapes giving rise to a focused and linear style. The wines are fermented naturally in old oak barrels to enhance the sense of place.
