The joy of Chardonnay is that it's cultivated across the world, and you can experience a completely different expression depending on where it's grown. This is a variety that's very good at telling you where it's from.

In this mixed case, you can experience three unique, delicious takes on Chardonnay. One from Burgundy, its natural home, one from South Africa, and another from the cooler climate Yarra Valley in Australia.

In the Case:

2 x Domaine Devevey, Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes de Beaune 'Champs Perdrix', 2015

Wow, what a wine! A taught expression of Chardonnay that we can't get enough of. Incredibly expressive, with a gun-smoke reduction on the nose - a hallmark of its chalky soils - the palate is weighty and textured, with notes of apple, pear, toasted brioche and a subtly creamy finish. Think Bernard Bonin, but without the fanfare. If you enjoy a wine with a real sense of place, and elegant structure, this is a must-drink!

2 x Ben Haines, 'Colour Block' Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, Australia 2021

Don't be fooled by the delicate colour, this is a Chardonnay expression that's full of fantastic texture, nervy acidity and a creamy, complex finish. Think crunchy orchard fruit, honeycomb and pear with a citrus kick that ties everything together. A real testament to the ethos of modern Australian winemaking, where finesse and elegance are championed over bolder, oaked flavour.

2 x Lelie Van Saron, Chardonnay, South Africa 2019

From up-and-coming winemaker Natasha Williams, the Lelie van Saron is made in a cool climate style - beautifully capturing the minerality of the region’s Cartref soils in balance with delicate varietal fruit.

Layers upon layers of delicate citrus, lemon peel, apple and melon and a heavenly saline finish that balances out its creamy texture. Natasha's approach to winemaking is simple: make wine with a pure expression of the terroir and grape variety, using natural methods. The result is an elegant and honest wine that nods to Burgundy and delivers a world-class expression of Chardonnay.
