This fragrant red fills your mouth with juicy black fruit and a touch of herbaceousness. It's blended from different vineyards and varieties from across the estate. The tannins are ripe the finish is long works perfectly with lamb and other grilled meats. The ‘Franc’ in the wine’s name comes from their desire to reflect the soils and place in an honest and respectful way. In their own words they are attempting to ‘catch the genie from the vineyard, and put it in a bottle’.
Celler Pardas is part of the new generation of producers in Catalonia, focussing on local grapes such as Xarel.lo, Macabeo and Sumoll. The project began in 1996 when local winegrowers Ramón Parera and Jordi Arnan bought the Can Comas estate high in the Penedés. This stunning, medieval farmhouse was surrounded by 60 hectares of forest, pasture and shrubland, cut through by the Bitlles River. This unique terroir instantly jumped out at them, and they set to work clearing the area and started planting vines.
Their focus is on preserving the balance and health of their land. They farm organically without irrigation, aiming to always work with nature and not against it. It was a labour of love, taking until the 2004 vintage for their wines to be ready for the public to enjoy too. We think it was well worth waiting for such authentic and delicious wines which speak unashamedly of their origin. These are fabulous wines from a resolutely quality-focused producer.
