There are a lot of factors to consider in organic winemaking, but in a nutshell, organic wines are grown from vines that haven’t been treated with chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Wines that have organic certification (usually a little green leaf on the back label) indicate that a producer works with respect to the natural environment. However, organic certification can be very expensive. Not all winemakers can afford organic certification, despite working organically in their vineyards.
