Juan Antonio's mastery of Bobal is unmistakable in this fantastic, plush red. The 'Clos Lojen' is sourced from six small, limestone-rich parcels in Manchuela; sitting at a lofty 800 metres above sea level, which in turn adds a lovely freshness and balance to the grapes. This is a smooth, fruit driven red with notes of dark cherry and blackberry, with an enticing spicy finish.
Juan Antonio Ponce (pronounced pon-thay) cut his teeth working with Spanish winemaking giant Telmo Rodriguez. He went on to set up his own operation in the region of Manchuela. Ponce wines have become emblematic of a new philosophy in Spanish wine: biodynamically and organically farmed, focused on the representation of terroir and heavily influenced by the natural wine movement in France.
His vineyards are at high altitude, bringing freshness to the wines. His vines are between 30 and 90 years old, and some of them are still planted on their own rootstocks.
